The suspended Pakistani player Salman Butt received another shock when his lawyer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aftab-Gul-c42202 decided to withdraw himself from the case. This decision by the lawyer serves as a major blow to Salman Butt’s efforts in trying to prove
his innocence.
The apparent reason for the withdrawal given by Aftab Gul is that he does not believe that the players will be given justice. This comes in wake of the players appeals being rejected in an International Cricket Council’s hearing
in Dubai. Aftab Gul represented Salman Butt along with another Lawyer, Khalid Ranjha.
Aftab Gul said, “I don’t think the suspended players will get justice, so I have withdrawn from the case.” The case will be heard from 6th to 11th January in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
After the rejection of their appeals, an outburst by the players was seen in the media, where they accused the International Cricket Council of being biased and punishing them for being Pakistanis. The players accused the International
Cricket Council of not giving them any reason for rejecting their appeals; the players were also of the opinion that the International Cricket Council had suspended them without having any solid proof.
The Pakistan Cricket Board seems to be in no mood of helping the players in their efforts either and the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 has clearly stated that the players are on their own and the board will not support
them in fighting their case in any manner.
This whole fiasco unfolded this summer in England, when three players that included Test captain Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif of the Pakistan cricket team were accused of being involved in spot fixing on the behest
of a bookie http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed.
It was a local British Tabloid “News of the World”, which launched a sting operation and later provided evidence of the players’ involvement in spot fixing. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard then gained access to the players to interview them and
searched their hotel rooms.
The three accused players were immediately suspended from taking part in the rest of the series by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board, and later the International Cricket Council suspended the players from all forms of international and
domestic cricket for an indefinite period.
Due to these allegations, the Pakistan Cricket Board and ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit came under heavy criticism from all quarters and the Pakistan Cricket Board had to take serious steps to counter corruption.
One of the immediate steps taken by the Pakistan Cricket Board was to enforce a new tougher code of conduct, which was approved by the International Cricket Council. Moreover, all the Pakistani players selected to take part in
the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 were made to sign the new code of conduct.
Things are not looking very bright for the accused trio, as it is evident that even their lawyers are not confident enough to argue for their innocence. Nevertheless, the three players are still maintaining their innocence and
have vowed to prove themselves free from any wrong doings.
