Chelsea striker Salomon Kalou revealed he wanted confirmation of regular first team football before he committed his long term future with the London club. The 26-year-old will be out of contract at the end of the season and so far has not signed a contract extension, meaning he could be free to leave in the summer.
However, there are apparently talks going on between the player and the club, with manager Andre Villas-Boas determined to retain the Ivory Coast international. The two parties have until the January transfer window to resolve the issue, otherwise Kalou could be leaving Stamford Bridge soon.
While Kalou intends on staying with the Blues, he revealed he was looking to play regular football, something that has not been guaranteed in recent times. According to the striker he was looking to improve his form and develop further, which could only be achieved with regular football.
Kalou said while speaking to reporters:
“That's what every player wants to have, game time. Because if you're not playing every weekend, how are you going to improve yourself?”
Kalou admitted he was currently in talks with the club over a possible contract extension that would keep him at the club past the summer. For him to agree to a contract though, Kalou wanted confirmation from the Portuguese boss that he would play a role for Chelsea in the upcoming seasons.
He revealed:
“We're still talking and hopefully the club is putting itself in a good position and me myself as well.”
The striker continued:
“I want to stay, I want to be here. I like Chelsea. I've had a fantastic five seasons here and won some prizes.

Continuing with the recent trend, Villas-Boas started Kalou on the bench in the UEFA Champions League clash against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Racing-c40298 Genk at Stamford Bridge. However, the Ivorian made an instant impact after coming on, even scoring a goal in his side’s brilliant 5-0 win.
Kalou revealed he was pleased with his side’s ever improving performance and the fantastic win in Europe, which showed the player’s developing understanding. He urged his side to remain consistent, which would result in silverware at the end of the season.
He continued:
“The team is coming on together and playing good football, adding a lot of goals. We have to keep pushing ourselves to the limit. That's the only way you can achieve big things.”
