Which state in Mexico has the biggest salsa scene? And I mean "salsa en linea" - not cumbia danced to salsa music.

  1. In Mexico City, you can find people dancing all types of salsa...the cumbia style, LA (en linea) style, and lots of cuban style.

Salsa en linea is really only popular north of the border... usually you find cuban or the colombian cumbia style down south.

They tell me that the border cities, like Monterrey and Matamoros, have american style salsa... but I've never been.

I think that Vera Cruz has the biggest salsa scene and the most dancers, but it is pretty much all cuban style, not en linea.

There is a practical reason that people in Mexico and Cuba don't dance much en linea. Salsa en linea usually requires nice dance shoes with suede soles and a nice hardwood floor.... things that you rarely find in Caribbean clubs. Cumbia and cuban style salsa are "marched" and don't require so much sliding with special shoes on special surfaces.

  2. Humm.... Try going to Cuba, Mexico is more into the "romantic salsa", but it is not a very traditional thing here.
