Salsify aiming for a hat trick through the Fairyhouse Steel Joseph R O ‘Reilly Memorial Hunters Chase at Fairyhouse
Fairyhouse is to stage the Fairyhouse Steel Joseph R O ‘Reilly Memorial Hunters Chase over three miles and a furlong on Tuesday, 10th April. The €5, 520 race has been able to assemble a lineup of eighteen five-year and older thoroughbreds.
An entry with the most appropriate credentials is Salsify, Beneficial’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare Our Deadly, as he is unbeaten in the last two starts of the new season out of the three ventures that he undertook. The two final starts of the
previous season were victories.
Salsify penetrated into the new season on 19th January in the Arctic Tack Stud Hunters Chase at Thurles over three miles. Entered as the 3/1 favourite, he was pulled up from the race which was won by Merchant Royal.
The runner up for the race was Viking Splash.
Jolted with shock on being incapable during the debut of the season, Salsify bagged the next two races that came his way.
On 12th February, he won the Raymond Smith Memorial Hunters Chase at Leopardstown over three miles with Mr C. J. Sweeney as the two led the runner up of the race, Saddlers Storm, by 3 ¾ lengths.
The third position was taken over by the 9/4 favourite of the race, On The Fringe.
Salsify then monopolised the Christie’s Foxhunter Chase Challenge Cup on 16th March at Cheltenham over three miles and two and a half furlong. Yet again he was paired up with Mr. C. J. Sweeney and this time the two troubled the 3/1 favourite runner
up of the race, Chapoturgeon, by keeping him at a length’s difference.
Concluding the race third was Oscar Delta.
Last time that Salsify raced at Fairyhouse was on 26th April 2011 in the Ratoath Gaa Joseph R. O’Reilly Memorial Hunters Chase over three miles and a furlong.
He won the race under the guidance of R. O. Harding and led the 5/4 favourite runner up of the race, Viking Splash, by three lengths.
Coming at terms with the third position after the winner was The Snuffler.
Salsify will be racing at Fairyhouse after nearly a year and is in just the right from to strike a hat trick today despite the highly versatile lineup.
