Salt in my aquarium???

I recently read that to kill off funguses to can kill/harm fish and frogs, people should add salt to their aquariums...I have a 2.5 gallon aqaurium with a betta and 2 dwarf frogs (I know, overcrowded; whatever); but should I add salt, and if i should, how much? Also, will it harm the frogs (they're sensitive), and what kind of salt is this (where can i find it); or it just regular table salt? Help.

  1. you would be fine if you added salt to your aquarium, any salt is fine but i would add about 1 teaspoon.

  2. This tank is small enough You don't really have to use salt. It is called aquarium salt and can be found at the aquarium shop. The salt also helps the fish have a healthy coat of slime. Just ask the place you got the fish/tank from and they will help you out.

  3. yuo can get it at petco or petsmart they look like milk cartens and its called aquarium salt dont use table salt.

  4. The frogs actually do not need aquarium salt. Some fish thrive better in a tank with fresh water salt added. You can find this at any store that sells aquatic supplies which is in a milk carton looking container. It will tell you on there how much to add. However with the frogs, you dont need this.

  5. You do not need salt. No table or aquarium salt. Your frogs and fish do not need it.

  6. No, it isn't table salt. That has additives to prevent it from clumping in the shaker. It isn't a good idea to add salt to an aquarium - there are fungicides that are specific for aquaria usage. Using salt will do serious harm to those critters who are accustomed to fresh water.

  7. Don't add table salt,(It can harm your frogs)..just go to your local specialty fish pet store and inquiry about the correct product you use.

  8. Aquarium Salt is good for all of them, I'm 99% sure. I think API has Aquarium Salt for fish tanks and you'll find that at your local fish supply store usually. It will indicate the correct amount for your tank on the carton. Never use table salt. And your tank isn't completely over-crowded, but don't add anymore.
