The doctor told me today I'm gaining to much weight at 29wks and also have the warning signs for preclampsia and that I need to stay away from salts, sugars, extra the junk food thing, in which I know and that's not all I eat, I'm eating apples everyday as much as I can and drinking water. But anyways is that a substitute for salt that would be best to use instead of regular?

  1. Try flavouring food with herbs and spices instead of salt.  My teenage son likes to put grated cheese on almost anything for flavour (soup, burgers, pasta dishes etc.), and the calcium will be good for you and the baby.  If you add salt at the table, take the salt shaker off and put it in a cupboard.  If you make a recipe and it says to add salt, just skip it.  You probably won't notice there's no salt at all.  Try doubling the herbs, eg 1 teaspoon of dried oregano - you can easily put in two.

The biggest thing is to make your own foods - if you eat a lot of prepackaged food, it's likely to be high in salt, fat, and sugar.  Use a cooked chicken breast in a sandwich instead of deli chicken or turkey, which is loaded with salt, for example.

Soda is high in salt and sugar, so cut that out completely.  Don't replace it with diet - it's still high in salt, and your baby doesn't need those chemicals.
