  1. Why are you adding salt in the first place?  Any why rock salt?  Table salt is purified, while rock salt is very much contaminated, especially with metals which can pose threats to the fish.  Really, I'd stop at 1 teaspoon and skip the salt idea.  When you do your next water changes, some will get pulled out, and each water change after it will do the same.

EDIT: Aquarium salt is purified and contains compounds other than sodium chloride, most notably magnesium and calcium carbonate.

  2. I know for tropical fish it is 1 Tablespoon for every five gallons so I guess this would be fine for Goldfish. However go buy freshwater aquarium salt...that is the only kind of salt that is healthy for fish.

  3. If I was you I wouldnt. They are not salt water fish, so they should not be seeking any salt. At All. It will make there skin All sore and they will some day die. I would now put them in adifrrent bowl, without an sault. How do i know this???

IM A VET!!!! belive it or not i a special fish docter. So the end product is NO!!!

  4. I always add rocksalt in my new purchase of goldfish and they do just great just for conditioning during quarantine period after 4 weeks I stop to add salt,  I just add a little but not much.

  5. yep and you can buy the same salt at the pet store..
