Saltwater/ freshwater parameters?

ok so are there any water parameters involved in saltwater aquariums that arent in freshwater aquariums? if so can you describe them for me.

also any equipment needed to test the parameters i need to know of those too.

  1. also your calcium and magnesium levels if this is a reef tank, and other for test kits for the respective chemical,

    a hydrometer of SG

    and a refractometer for salinity


  2. Salinity,(the amount of salt), Specific gravity,( the total of all of the dissolved solids,and an easy way to monitor salinity), kH,(the buffering capacity of your water,this is much more important in Marine aquaria),pH,(this is much more important in saltwater).

    You will never get all of the information that you need without owning a few books on Marine environments. First buy the books,(2 or 3 a minimum).
