I have a 29 gallon saltwater fish tank and I just bought some new live rock from my local fish store. I have an anemone looking thing growing on one of my rocks. it is white colored and about an inch by one inch. is it bad or good? it looks like it has grown a little over the past month...sorry but i don't have a picture. there is a smaller version of it on another of my rocks!

  1. Desirable anemones are known to hitchhike in on liverock however more common as far as anemone hitchhikers are those in the majano and aiptasia family. Take a look here: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/anemoneidfaqs... and see if you can find things that appear similar to the ones that hitchhiked in on your rock.

  2. That is the beauty of live rock.  You never know what you are going to get.  No worries, though just think you now don't have to go buy them.

It is a good thing.  Not all anemone are pink or blue.  They come in a number of different colors.

I once had a cuddle fish in a piece of mine.  You may be surprised in the future what has hitched in on your rock including bristle worms.  All a good thing.

  3. maybe its aiptasia or maybe a small condylactus anemone heres what aiptasia looks like http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=...

  4. do they look like these?

If they do then they are apitasia, they are a pest and can spread and cover tanks completly, they have a powerful sting also.
