Question:

Saltwater tank with overflow, metal frame stand...?

We purchased a used 65g tank that has an overflow box (All-Glass, comes from factory that way) with drain pipes sticking out from the bottom. The tank did not come with a stand, so it has been sitting in our home without water in it. We finally bought one of the metal frame stanks for a 65g today, and the pipes will fit perfectly through the stand. However, can I set it up like that, or do I need to modify the stand to support the bottom of the tank so that it doesn't blow out?

  1. hmm thats a toughy without seeing the tank setup. if it were my tank though, i would prefer if it had some type of support in the middle and of coarse a strong support along the edge of the tank. i envy ur setup. lol. i always wanted to try out a setup with an overlfow tank. very fascinated by the system and its effectiveness.

anyways. personally i am uncomfortable with "metal" stands. it may say stainless steel, (i bought a knife set that said "stainless steel", the piece of c**p knife rusted on me in a week. stupid knife. lol and stupid me for buying the stupid knife.)

especially if u want to go with saltwater setup. i would advise no STRONGLY AVISE not to use a metal stand for ur aquarium. the salt and water will accelerate the oxidation processing of the metal(rust). so if that metal starts that metal starts to rust, then u r screwed. the structure will weaken and collapse from the extreme weight of ur tank. lol. my wife would absolutely KILL me if that happened to my tanks. lol

i would get a wooden stand. very reliable and very sturdy. and make sure if it is a tall stand that it has a nice "wider" base so "if" someone were to bump into it or (if u live in cali) an earthquake were to hit, ur tank will not budge.

    good luck and have fun.

ALL GLASS AQUAARIUMS offer wooden stands that are perfect for ur overflow system. i want to say petco sells all glass aquarium products and/or check ur local fish shop. there is no assembly required.

  2. I would guess that the stand and tank are designed to work together...might want to go to the Local Fish Store and ask...
