  1. Military courtesy, all comissioned officers of all branches

  2. Salute ALL officers all the time.  If you fail to do so, they will make it known that you have made a mistake and it won't be pleasant.

  3. You should salute ALL officers, not matter what branch, and also officers from allied countries like Britain, Israel, Canada, etc. Its common military courtesy.

  4. You exchange salutes with officers of any branch or any allied nation. A salute is a greeting between military members as a form of recognition that both are engaged in the profession of arms.

Please note that I used the word "exchange". That's what it is. For every salute rendered by the junior person the senior person is obliged to return that salute.

  5. Not only officers of different branches, but also officers of both friendly and hostile nations.  If you were a prisoner of war you are required to display proper military respect and custodies even to your captors.

  6. 10th General Order

  7. You should salute ALL officers.

  8. DUH

  9. Absolutely and not just a U.S. Oficer, but also officers from allied, friendly foreign nations.

  10. I think this horse has been beaten to death but let me give it one more whack.  Yes, you salute all superior officers, regardless of branch or country.  If at flag raising or colors you salute all colors and national anthems.  The exception is Cadets and Mid Shipman as they are not officers, however you still render respect.

  11. you salute ALL officers, including foreign officers too... those ones can be tricky to figure out though, all us ranks are pretty similar...

  12. Any one, period, you recognize as an Officer is to be rendered the "salute".

When in Germany we were warned to make sure we snapped to for the Soviet Officers present during the Cold War. They had special license plates to ID them, they shopped at the PX. We were also to detain them if found in an unauthorized area. I never came across them while in uniform, but did see them once at the PX in Frankfurt (I did say "Good morning" just to be safe. We watched a group of guy's getting the riot act from 1 in the Frankfurt Hopt Bahnhof. These guys were coming out of the 21st Replacement and lounging on their duffel's, hats off, it was pretty funny.

In regards to your question to Oscar the answer is yes. I will add that we are required to salute foreign flags as we would our own. Got choked out in "escape and evasion" for not saluting the aggressor's flag.
