  1. ok.. some tips.

go to the city called Cidade Alta, where they have about 800 historic houses from the centuries  XVII and XVIII remodeled and conserved by the govenment . Awesome. Also in the same city you'll find tons of lakes, museum, restaurants, stores...etc.

Also the church of Sao Francisco, witch is made of hundreds and hundres pounds of GOLD! The most expensive church in Brazil builted in 1723.

Rio Vermelho is where you go to eat and hangout.. restaurants, bars, lots of people and turists.

By the airport you'll find the beaches.

Itapoa beach has natural pools and is the best to relax and swim.

Stella Maris beach is where people surf.

Flamengo beach  is where young people hangout.

Igraja do Bonfim...(1772) the most famous church of Salvador.

Im not from Salvador so that the best I could find for ya. As far as Rio, I know lot more!!!  ;-)  good luck.. you'll love it.
