Salvador Indurain is satisfied with performance of his team in EuroHockey Nations Championship
Salvador Indurain, the coach of the Spanish Women’s hockey team, stated that he was proud of his athletes for their performance in the EuroHockey Nations Championship which is in progress in Monchengladbach, Germany. The coach shared his views after the
Spanish women were defeated by their German counterparts by 1-2 in the second semi-final of the women’s event played on Thursday, August 25.
With the defeat, the Spanish will now have to participate in the qualifying round for the Olympic Games to be held in London, England in July 2012. The Spanish side will be up against the English in their next match, for bronze medal, to be played on Saturday,
August 27.
"I am satisfied with what they have done the players and I cannot reproach the team. In Eastern Europe are showing to have a good team, we are getting them together, and this game even more unites us, although we left a bittersweet taste more sour than sweet,”
Salvador Indurain, who is coaching the team at the highest level first the first time in the European Monchengladbach, stated about his athletes’ show so far in the tournament.
"It was difficult to stop Germany as hostesses make the field very long and wide and their movements create problems on defence. In any case Germany is one step above us,” Salvador Indurain further stated about the German Women’s superior play and his team’s
efforts in the field.
The coach looked pretty hopeful for a better show in their next encounter against the English women and stated that although the English athletes are physically fit as they started their European campaign on a high note but their semi-final game against
the Dutch ladies was not as good as it should be. The Dutch ladies battered the English women by 2-0 in the first semi-final of the day. He also stated that they are quite familiar with their next opposition in the in the bronze medal match.
