Salvador Sanchez collects impressive third-round knockout win over Marino Montiel – Boxing News
Salvador Sanchez, the WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) featherweight champion, successfully defended his title for the fourth time in a row and collected an emphatic third round knockout win over fellow countryman Marino Montiel, in a 12-round bout
held on April 21, 2012.
The ring for the bout was stretched at Estadio Jose Lerma Perez situated in Ocoyoacac, Mexico and the event was promoted by the duo of Fausto Daniel Garcia of Boxeo de Gala and Eddy Reynoso of Canelo Promotions.
The above duo headlined the Saturday night show whereas the night was co-headlined by the WBC Youth female light flyweight championship bout between Ibeth Zamora Silva and Jessica Nery Plata.
Salvador, 26, was seriously outclassed by Marino’s experience. The young 26-year-old was entering in his career’s 36th bout and boasted 28 wins, 16 of them via knockout. Also known as ‘Sal II’, the Mexican lad was defending his title for the fourth time.
Sanchez collected a third round technical knockout win over Adan Garcia to grab the WBC Caribbean gold and since then has defended it successfully against Jovanny Soto, Alexander Monterrosa, and Mario Flores.
Marino, 31, widely known as ‘Zaino’, on the other hand broke his 10-bout long lose streak recently and collected two consecutive wins over rookie pugilists Elias Luna and Carlos Bacasegua.
From the very beginning of the bout, Sanchez exhibited a clear upper hand over Marino in fact controlled the pace of the whole bout. The young lad used his agility and impressive footwork and pummelled the veteran by his powerful jabs every now and then
collecting not only precious points but also inflicting maximum damage.
Things started to get weary for Marino during the second round when he started to get fatigued and lost all his strength and brawling sense. Marino’s sluggishness cost him the whole bout as he was unable to defend himself from Salvador’s swift and almost
invisible left-right hooks.
With the start of the third round, Salvador leashed his might and rattled Marino’s world altogether by attacking vigorously. After the passage of just one minute and 46 seconds, Sanchez, the defending champion, connected a beautiful left-right combination
that flattened Montiel on the ring floor.
The bout ended in favour of Salvador when the referee completed his 10 count. After the bout the happy Sanchez commented, “It’s a new victory and more to my people but I want to fight as soon as possible and I feel I am very close to a world title opportunity.
I’ve been moving and I’m training hard for that night. I’m not so new after seven years and I’m pushing my limits with my effort and desire.”
With this win, Salvador has now collected 29 wins in his gear and 17 of them via KO. Marino, on the other hand, has received his 18th defeat and the 12th via knockout.
