Salvador Sanchez defends his title successfully against veteran Juan Jose Beltran – Boxing News
Salvador Sanchez, the current WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) featherweight champion, successfully defended his title for the fifth consecutive time by collecting an eighth-round knockout decision over fellow country man Juan Jose Beltran, in a
12-round bout held on May 12, 2012.
The ring for the bout was set up at Hotel Presidente Intercontinental situated in Polanco, Distrito Federal, Mexico and the event was promoted by the trio of Fausto Daniel Garcia of Boxeo de Gala, Hector Garcia of HG Boxing and Reginaldo & Oswaldo Kuchle
of Promociones del Pueblo.
The above duo co-headlined the pay-per-view whereas the bout for the vacant WBC silver lightweight gold between Abdiel Ramirez and Saul Carreon headlined the Saturday night showdown.
Salvador was the underdog from the very beginning of the bout but still possessed some aspects that eventually shifted the odds in his favour. The 26-year-old Mexican, who is now eyeballing Jhonny Gonzalez for his WBC featherweight title, was heavily overshadowed
by Juan’s experience.
Sanchez, also known as the ‘Sal II’, was entering in his career’s 37th bout and boasted 29 wins with 17 via knockout. Since his last loss the young lad was on a 10-bout win streak. Salvador grabbed his WBC gold from Adan Garcia and since then successfully
defended it against four pugilists of high-calibre.
His Saturday night challenger, Juan, 33, was in his career’s 49th bout and boasted just 27 wins. He has nailed 18 of his opponents by knockout and has collected a huge 18 defeats. Moreover, he has continuously been going through a tough phase of his career
in fact he has collected just four wins in his last 10 bouts.
Also known as the ‘Pinocho’, Beltran was seriously outclassed during the bout as he was unable to defend himself from the powerful well targeted jabs thrown by the agile Salvador.
From the very first second of the bout, Sanchez did not give even a slight leverage to Jose and jolted him every now and then by his left-right combinations. Juan tried his level best to stun Salvador but all his efforts went in vain since Sanchez’s defence
was impenetrable and he did not commit any grave mistake while putting forth an absolute classic show.
At the end of the eighth round, Juan officially accepted his defeat and got flattened on the ring floor by Salvador’s powerful right hook. The referee completed his 10-count and declared Sanchez as the winner of the bout.
With this win Salvador now has 18 knockout’s and 30 wins in his resume whereas Juan has collected yet another defeat in his profile and now has 27 wins and 19 losses. Salvador will now get ready for Jhonny Gonzalez, the man for whom he has awaited for a
pretty long time, and will take on the WBC featherweight champion most probably in July 2012.
