Salvador Sanchez to defend his WBC CABOFE featherweight title against Marino Montiel - Boxing News
Salvador Sanchez, the current WBC Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) featherweight champion, will defend his prestigious title for the fourth time against fellow countryman Marino Montiel, the former number one contender for the WBA Fedelatin bantamweight
gold, in a 12-round bout which will be televised on April 21, 2012.
The ring for the event will be stretched at Ocoyoacac situated in Mexico and the event is being promoted by Fausto Daniel Garcia of Boxeo de Gala. Salvador and Marino will headline the event whereas the WBC Youth female light flyweight championship bout
between Ibeth Zamora Silva and Jessica Nery Plata will co-headline the Saturday night show.
Salvador, 26, is a surging Mexican prospect who has been in a total 35 bouts and boasts 28 wins with 16 of them via knockout. The young lad is on a continuous 10-bout long win streak since his last loss to Tomas Villa.
Sanchez, famous as the ‘Sal II’, grabbed his WBC gold after collecting a technical knockout decision against Adan Garcia and since then has successfully defended it against Jovanny Soto, Alexander Monterrosa, and Mario Flores.
His opponent, Marino, though resides at lower ranks in the world rankings yet is the more experienced guy at the moment and has an upper hand over Sanchez. The 31-year-old has been in a total 52 bouts and has collected just 33 wins. He has nailed 17 of his
opponents by knockout.
The only aspect that gives Salvador an upper hand is his decent win ratio. The young lad has nailed men with experience easily and above all is defending his title successfully. Montiel, on the other hand, unfortunately has never grabbed a title.
In addition, Montiel, also known as ‘Zaino’, has broken his 12-bout long lose streak by recently collecting wins over newbie’s Elias Luna and Carlos Bacasegua. The odds are clearly in favour of the champion who overshadows the challenger by his emphatic
win ratio, knockout proficiency, agility, and footwork.
During a recent media interaction, Salvador shared his joy of being in a national pay-per-view and commented, “It’s nice to fight in the Mexico State. I am looking for my goal to seek a world title fight. We try to advance in every fight and I feel I’ve
matured and learned a lot at this time. This is a 7-year career and I feel I’m ready for big opportunities.”
The bout will be an exquisite one and the Mexican fans will most probably see their ace Salvador defend his title again for the fourth consecutive time successfully.
