The West Ham United manager has revealed the regret on not signing Robert Lewandowski when he was at Blackburn Rovers
Sam Allardyce has admitted that he was very close to signing the Borussia Dortmund striker in 2010. The tactician was at that time managing Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 and the club had held talks with the striker’s representatives in the
summer transfer window. However, some financial constraints and due to cancellation of some flights blocked the move and he joined Borussia Dortmund instead.
The West Ham manager admitted that he was unfortunate not to sign the attacker and if his club at that time had some cash, the player would have been playing in the English Premier League at the moment.
Robert Lewandowski has excelled at the Signal Iduna Park and has already scored a staggering 35 goals in all competitions this season. Allardyce claimed that his agent could not come to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 for negotiations because of the bad
weather.
“I think about it every time I see him play. I think they wanted three or four million euros but we were particularly strapped financially at the time at Blackburn. I watched him play but I didn't get the chance to meet him. I
think his agent said he couldn't come over because of the ash cloud,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The tactician claimed that the Polish international has a value of €40 million currently and will be moving to a top club in the upcoming transfer window.
“He's probably worth €40 million (£33.6m) now. There were a lot of people looking at him at that time as well but we had the edge over everyone else because of the attraction of the Premier League. He could have used us as a stepping
stone but it didn't happen,” he concluded.
