Sam Baird qualifies for two-year professional snooker tour – Snooker News
First event of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) has featured four semi-finalist potters after four days of tremendous proceedings at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. These four semi-finalists will be playing in the next two seasons. The
event went smoothly with some close encounters between the rookies.
England’s Sam Baird also produced some outstanding snooker skills at the venue to book his place in the professional circuit for the next two years. Winning the pro tour ticket is indeed a tremendous achievement for the Englishman as he will now be able
to play in the qualifying sessions of all major events coming in the next two years.
Baird’s success in the Q School will give him a great boost to his confidence and he will be able to perform up to the mark in the professional circuit. Baird will now be looking to take advantage of this opportunity and make an appearance in the next seasons.
He clinched five whitewash victories in his Q School run to book his place in the professional circuit for the next two years.
Speaking to the media, Baird said, “That was a big disappointment and it took me a few weeks to get over it. I have bossed games like that before and I just have to get used to winning at the venues. I did better than I thought I would last season but still
didn't manage to stay on.”
The 23-year-old added, “It's good to have two years now, but you still have to do well in the first year. I have played well this week and got off to a good start in every match. I didn't mind how I got through as long as I kept winning.”
Baird started his Q School campaign with his opening match against Kacper Filipiak and clinched an easy win over him by the score line of 4-0. He earned another whitewash victory in the second round when he defeated George Marter 4-0.
With two whitewash wins in the first two rounds, Baird was feeling quite confident. He faced Allan Taylor in the third round and ousted him by an easy and superb whitewash win with a 4-0 score line. He set up Nick Jennings clash in the quarter-finals after
beating James Cahill by 4-0 in Round 4. Jennings also did not have a chance against him and crashed out of the event by a 4-0 score line.
