Sam Domoni makes five changes to Flying Fijians for second warm-up match against Tonga - Rugby
The Fijian national Rugby Union team, commonly known as Flying Fijians, has announced their squad for the second pre-World Cup match against Tonga. The Flying Fijians head coach, Sam Domoni,
listed the players on Thursday, August 18.
Domoni has made five changes to his squad, which handed over a 27 – 12 defeat to Tonga on Saturday, August 13, at Churchill Park, Lautoka. Domoni has dropped the Fijians captain and first choice
prop, Deacon Manu, for the game. Manu is replaced by the young front row forward, Waisea Daveta.
Ravai Fatiaki, Michael Tagicakibau, Akapusi Qera and Netani Talei are the other changes made by Domoni in the starting xv.
Commenting on his decision, Domoni added that Manu is dropped due to an ear infection, which has caused intensive pain. He further added, “Hopefully it's nothing serious but we're just being
cautious and want to ensure he's back to his very best before putting him back onto the field.”
Ravai Fatiaki and Michael Tagicakibau has replaced Seremaia Baikeinuku and Adriu Delai at the centre and left winger position respectively.
Domoni has named back row forward Akapusi Qera as the captain to lead the side in their second pre world cup warm up encounter. He will form the new back row forward combination with the Dominiko
Waqaniburotukula, at the number 6 flanker position.
Domoni further added, “Qera is one of the senior players in the side and his commitment to the cause has always been considerable and he certainly earns the respect of his peers which is why
he was given the captaincy.”
