Sam Hutsby eager to retain his European Tour card at the Final Qualifying Stage
Sam Hutsby of England carded a two-under par 70 in the fourth round of the Final Qualifying Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School, to share the 56th position on the leaderboard, on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
Hutsby started off his fourth-round campaign with a three-over par overall score, one shot behind the expected cut mark.
He then got off to a shaky start on the front nine, and recorded two birdies against a bogey and a double to reach the turn in one-over par score for the round.
Thereafter, he picked up pace and drained a birdie putt on the 11th hole, followed by a sparkling eagle on the very next hole that he played.
After finishing the round with six pars in a row, he found himself making the cut by just one shot – the cut was made at a two-over par score.
At the end of the day, he seemed really happy to remain in contention for the top-25 and ties, who will receive invitations to retain or earn their cards for the 2013 European Tour season.
“Most stressful day of my life today! Needed to make the cut to have any playing rights for next season! #pressure!” he tweeted.
“Going to leave the driver head cover in the room tomorrow! Need to catch the leaders! If in doubt go flat out! #driverplease” he added.
This year, the Englishman participated in 19 European Tour events and made the cut in only 10 events.
As a result, he finished the season with the 206th position in hand, in The Race to Dubai. Only the top-119 players in the money list were awarded with the playing rights for the upcoming season.
Therefore, the 24-year-old Lee-on-Solent, Hampshire resident decided to participate in the qualifying school, and is confident to retain his European Tour card.
Estanislao Goya and Andy Sullivan, in the meantime, shared the lead after posting a 12-under par four-round score.
A total of 73 players succeeded in making the cut on Tuesday, while 19 former European Champions failed to earn a coveted place in the last two rounds of the tournament.
