Sam James Walker wins the second Scottish Hydro Challenge title
On the 24th of June 2012, England’s Sam James Walker claimed the Scottish Hydro Challenge, hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts. After this victory, Walker has become the only player to have bagged the title on various occasions.
Sam Walker and Simon Wakefield were tied for the lead on top of the leaderboard when the final round had to be abandoned.
The rains made it impossible to continue playing on the course. Therefore, the tournament was forced to end earlier than scheduled.
As a result, the game continued at the 18th hole. As the game recommenced, both the players were going head to head, both carded 2 safe pars.
It was the third drive which made all the difference in the game. Wakefield found himself in the rough and Walker was in the fairway after the first shot.
Wakefield’s second shot went into the rough, while after the second shot, Walker was just seven feet away from the pin.
Wakefield failed in his attempt to card a par and Walker grabbed the opportunity to win his second Scottish Hydro Challenge. Walker made a perfectly weighted downhill putt to win the cup.
“I actually thought it missed,” said Walker, referring to his winning putt. “I actually thought it would stay up but thankfully it fell in”.
Referring to Simon Wakefield’s very competitive game, Walker said. “It’s unlucky for Simon because he’s played well all week. He played fantastically yesterday and my work was cut out. It’s a shame but you have to have a winner and I'm delighted to have
won”.
Magnus A Carlsson of Sweden finished at the third position, which means he has moved to the top of the Rankings.
Chris Doak of Scotland, John Parry of England and Daniel Brooks of England were all tied for the forth position. This fourth position for Daniel Brook landed him among the top-10 in the ranking.
Sam Walker turned Professional in the year 2000. Walker has had 4 professional wins in his career. Out of these, three were Challenge Tours triumphs and one victory was in Hawkstone Park in 2000.
The 34-year-old has to win more titles to leave his mark in history.
