Sam Kuchinski earns Girl’s 100-yard backstroke gold medal: 2011 WPSC Holiday Sprints
Sam L Kuchinski of GOST-NI impressed the arena by earning gold medal of the 100-yard backstroke in Girl’s 13-14 years age group at the 2011 Whitney Point Swim Club (WPSC) Holiday Sprints on December 29, 2011.
The 14-year-old Kuchinski faced stiff competition from her team-member, Chelsea L Angulas and Taylor M Lane of WAAC-NI throughout the 100-yard backstroke sprint but with her notable talent, she managed to overwhelm efforts of her competitors.
Kuchinski gained significant lead over her fellow swimmers in the start of the race. With her promising swim and aggressive strategy, she ended her first 50-yards of the race with an effort of 32.69 seconds. Her time was 0.81 seconds away from her following
competitor, Angulas, who covered equivalent distance with a timing of 33.50 seconds. The 13-year-old Angulas was trailed by Lane, who remained 0.69 seconds behind her preceding swimmer and ended her first half of the race with a timing of 34.19 seconds.
The competition turned stronger in the next round, where all swimmers accelerated their efforts to secure a podium finish. Kuchinski sustained her fastest spot in the next round, where she clocked a splendid time of 1 minute and 08.78 seconds for gold medal.
Her title claiming effort was nearly five seconds slower than the age group record of 1 minute and 03.89 seconds, set by Devon M McFadden of GOST-NI in 2009.
The champion remained 0.59 seconds ahead of Angulas, who followed her on the victory stand for silver medal by producing a nice effort of 1 minute and 09.37 seconds.
In the meantime, the arena witnessed a spectacular effort of 13-year-old Lane, who remained just a nail away from overwhelming the effort of her foregoing finisher. Lane stayed only 0.01 seconds behind silver medallist and reached the podium for bronze medal
by posting a time of 1 minute and 09.38 seconds.
In addition, the spectators acknowledged gruelling efforts of all contestants in their respective events while the session ended after the completion of all listed events. Furthermore, the winners were called upon the medal rostrum for awards and accolades
after the conclusion of session.
