Sam Latus of Hull KR is aiming for first grade games in 2012 – Rugby League
While addressing a press conference on Wednesday, November 30, Hull Kingston Rovers’ Sam Latus shared that he was looking forward to establish himself further in Rugby League by advancing into the first grade games from next season onwards.
Latus will begin his third year with Robins and so far has played 13 games with them. His two years at the club were not studded with extraordinary performances, which is why the player is bent on proving his mettle in the first grade games.
While talking to the media, the 22-year-old winger said, “Hopefully I'll get the chance to establish myself this year. I've got to keep working really hard, get in Sandy's [coach Craig Sandercock] plans and take it from there.”
The Robins’ winger talked about the competition he will face for the on-field position in Rover’s line-up and said, “Craig Hall finished the season really well last year, Dave Hodgson is a great player and it's going to be really tough for me but at the
moment I'm just learning as much as I can. There's plenty of young kids too like Nick Johnson and Liam Salter are all training well and are really skilful.”
The player further added that there is going to be a lot of competition which he would have to beat but the same tough competition makes it exciting for all players who are hoping to book themselves in the first grade game. The finalised pick for the next
season will be made soon as Rovers are heading out for their pre-season training in Tenerife. The players’ performance will help team officials determine their positions.
While talking about his pre-season training, Latus added that he is excited about being part it. He also said that the season is a huge opportunity for him.
He went on and added that the training sessions are going to be pretty tough but this is exactly how it should be, as the tough competition itself will bring out the best of each player.
The Robin’s player further added that tough criteria is going to be in favour of players, because if they are going through a very hard training routine ahead of next season that will naturally translate into an even tougher competition from their side
to the opposition.
