Sam Marshall and Mark O’Donnell mesmerise arena in Gold Coast – Swimming news
University of Melbourne and Monash University’s athletes, Sam Marshall and Mark O’Donnell mesmerised the arena on day three of the 2011 Australian University Games, in Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, Queensland, Australian, on Thursday, September 29. The session
of the meet conducted Women’s 50 breast-stroke and Men’s 800m freestyle finals.
Sam Marshall aroused the expectations of her fans by winning the Women’s 50m breast-stroke title with a sterling mark of 33.05 seconds. Afterwards, Ashleigh McCleery did not lose hope and notched silver title on the podium by posting an impressive time of
34.21 seconds. Moreover, Katrina Schieber of University of Queensland was not away from her rivals in the meet and was placed third in a decisive time of 34.32 seconds.
In the corresponding race, Emily Selig of University of Melbourne earned fourth spot in a time of 35.00 seconds and Hannah Mullen of Queensland University of Technology settled fifth in 35.24 seconds. Amy Cullen of Queensland University of Technology was
placed sixth in a time of 35.46 seconds, whereas, Nicola O’Brien of Macquarie earned seventh spot in a time of 36.66 seconds. Additionally, Emma Gray of University of Sydney was placed eighth in a time of 37.46 seconds.
Afterwards, Mark O’Donnell of Monash University impressed the Gold Coast crowd in the Men’ 800m freestyle final meet and captured golden crown by posting a fastest time of 8 minutes and 35.03 seconds. Andrew Cameron of University of Melbourne was the silver
medallist of the meet, who completed his distance with a thrilling mark of 8 minutes and 40.76 seconds.
Meanwhile, Donald Cameron of Macquarie University settled for bronze with a riveting mark of 8 minutes and 44.31 seconds. Andrew Kennedy of University of New South Wales finished fourth in 8 minutes and 48.59 seconds, while Zac Charlton of Monash University
was placed fifth in a time of 9 minutes and 00.87 seconds.
In the corresponding swim, Nathan Barry of Monash University earned sixth spot in a time of 9 minutes and 44.11 seconds, whereas, Peter Woolley of Rmit University completed his distance in 9 minutes and 52.06 seconds for seventh place. Moreover, Harrison
Pullinger of Macquarie University was placed eighth in a time of 10 minutes and 11.95 second and Christopher Tass of University of Melbourne wound up ninth in a time of 10 minutes and 19.20 seconds.
Earlier in the day, Rebecca Pegg of University of Queensland won Women’s 800m freestyle title with an inspiring mark of 9 minutes and 14.80 seconds. In the corresponding race, Meagan Ramsay of University of Sydney earned silver medal with a time of 9 minutes
and 26.75 seconds and Nicolette Lyttle settled for bronze in a time of 9 minutes and 38.06 seconds.
