Sam Michael: New rear wing and exhaust blown diffusers will bring improvement to Williams FW33 – Formula 1
William’s Technical Director, Sam Michael is hopeful of Williams’ success in the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix after the team installed new exhaust blown diffusers to the FW33. A new rear wing will also be used in the car which was previously tested in Turkish
Grand Prix.
After installing some upgrades in the first four rounds of the Formula One 2011 season, Williams team completely failed to match the likes of Force India and Toro Rosso on the track. Michael now believes that the new upgrades will bring some much needed
performance boost in their 2011 package.
Michael said while speaking to reporters, “I hope that we as a team can make a good jump forward in performance with our upgrades in Barcelona. I remain positive that we will.”
“Since the Turkish Grand Prix, we have been working on our new rear wings that we ran in practice at Istanbul Park and we will have them on both cars again in Barcelona. In addition to that we'll have new exhaust blown diffusers to test,” added the Williams
Technical Director.
Williams duo, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado, have failed to land among points in the opening four races of the 2011 Formula 1 season, making it the worst opening for the nine-time Constructors Champion team, in 14 years.
The worst start to the season saw the heads of the team bringing the hammer down on the Williams technical team. Sam Michael, as a result of this poor slump, decided to resign from the post of Technical Director, however, he will see the remainder of the
2011 season with Williams. Replacing him would be Mike Coughlan, who has signed with Team Williams as their Chief Engineer and the decision to make him the Technical Director will be taken after the 2011 season.
The season continues in Barcelona with the fifth Grand Prix of the season kicking off from May 22 and Williams will be hoping to break their point deadlock in the Spanish Grand Prix.
