Sam Michael and Jon Tomlinson resign, Mike Coughlan joins Williams’ team – Formula 1 Update
Williams' Technical Director, Sam Michael and Chief Aerodynamic, Jon Tomlinson have resigned from the team after they were unable to make the car, FW33, a winning machine.
Williams' team Boss, Frank Williams, confirmed the news by saying that both members left an open space behind them for improvement.
Frank added that Mike Coughlan, the 2007 Spygate scandal man, will join the team in an effort to make Williams at least a mid-fielder in the 2011 season.
Frank confirmed the news and said, “Both Sam and Jon are talented and driven people who have worked hard. Nonetheless, they have recognised that the team's performance is not at the level that it needs to be and have resigned in order to give the team the opportunity to regroup.”
The team boss added that both men will remain in the team until the 2011 season is over and will try to give the struggling team some momentum. He also sighted new recruitments to the technical team in the near future.
Frank thinks that the new recruit, Mike, will help the team establish a new ground after which the Williams team will go for the mid-field. Frank said that Mike’s ban expired some time ago and he was available for the team.
Supporting the new inclusion in his team, Frank, said, “Mike Coughlan is a fine engineer with extensive experience across Formula One and both civil and defence engineering. He left Formula 1 in 2007 because of conduct which he acknowledges was wrong and which he profoundly regrets.”
After having a miserable start to the 2011 season, Sam himself felt guilty and said that he would re-think his place in the Williams team as he feels it is his negligence that the car, FW33, is not performing. Williams duo, Rubens Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado, have not been able to score a point yet in the opening three rounds of the 2011 season.
After a gap of almost three weeks, Formula 1 competitors will compete again in the Turkish Grand Prix, for the fourth time in the 2011 season.
