Sam Michael gives Williams’ FW33 a last shot in 2011 season with several upgrades – Formula 1 News
Williams’ technical director, Sam Michael, is ready to give the Grove-based outfit car, FW33, a last push before he leaves the team after the 2011 season. Sam stated that some new parts will be installed in the car to improve its’ ranking in the 2011 constructors’ championship.
Sam, who resigned from his post on Tuesday, May 3, has said that several new upgrades will be seen in the Williams car in the Turkish Grand Prix.
Sam stated, “The package for Turkey will include new brake ducts, revised front wing and rear wings, plus some other secondary items. Combined, these components should give the FW33 a decent step-up in performance. Our objective is to get the car into the points as soon as possible.”
These upgrades surely will boost the performance of the Williams car and will hopefully put the car on the right track before Sam leaves the team.
Williams’ driver, Rubens Barrichello, said that he wants to have a competitive car for the first race of the European part of the season, so that he can make the most out of the opportunity.
The Brazilian driver added, “I want to have a more competitive weekend with the team than we have had so far this season. We have new parts coming for Turkey which will hopefully work in our favour.”
Previously, Williams went through a bit of a shifting period in which some of the personals retired from the out-fit, while a few new faces joined the team. Technical director, Sam Michael and Chief aerodynamicist, Jon Tomlinson also resigned from their post.
Williams’ boss, Frank Williams has hired a new chief engineer, Mike Coughlan, who will take his position from next month onwards.
Williams have had a bad start to the 2011 season, as their car has failed twice in the first three races. Nine-time constructors’ champions, Williams, have failed to keep up speed with the younger teams like Force India, Toro Rosso and Lotus.
The next race will be contested in Turkey on May 8 and Williams will be hoping for a great finish on the circuit.
