Sam Michael says Barrichello’s pace was good throughout the Italian GP weekend – Formula 1 news
Williams’ technical director Sam Michael has said that the team driver Rubens Barrichello’s pace was good throughout the 2011 Italian Grand Prix weekend held from September 9-11, 2011 at Monza.
Michael discussed the Monza race and stated that they wasted a lot of time on medium tyres by Pirelli in the initial stages of the Grand Prix.
The team technical director talked to the media and added that both of the drivers Barrichello and Pastor Maldonado were competitive in the first stint, but when they took their first pitstop during the race, they could not maintain the pace until the end
of the Grand Prix.
Talking to reporters, Michael said, “In Monza, the rear wing curve is very flat. This means that there is not as much difference in laptime between the high and low levels of rear wing. Although the DRS is an important tool for racing, the most important
factor this weekend appeared to be having the optimum engine revs for the race, even if that meant compromising some overtaking capability.”
He went on to mention, “However, on the exit of Parabolica the rear wheels spun too quickly for him to react. Initially we thought it was due to him pressing the DRS too early, but it actually happened after that.”
Apart from that, the Williams technical director told the media that they had a lot of blistering issue during the Friday Free Practice sessions, which they fixed before Sunday’s race for their better performance on the grid.
The Grove-based outfit plans to bring some upgrades in their FW33 car for the next Singapore race weekend which will be held on September 25, 2011 at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
Both the drivers Maldonado and Barrichello finished their Italian Grand Prix at the 11th and 12th places respectively at the Monza racetrack.
Let’s see how both of them perform in the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix following their Monza race results.
