Sam Northeast’s ton guides Kent to a strong position against Loughborough MCCU
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. The hosts scored 450 for the loss of seven wickets, before declaring the innings on day-one of
the three-day match and dismissed four batsmen of the opposition before close of play.
Sam Northeast, who is the skipper of Kent, elected to bat first after winning the toss. The conditions were perfect for batting, as the pitch was dry and hard. The weather was also perfect for batting, as there was no cloud cover or chances of rain.
The start to the innings for Kent was an ideal one, as the openers, Daniel James Bell-Drummond and Chris Piesley constructed a 61-run partnership for their team. The latter got out though after getting a start, as he managed 22 runs off 30 balls.
This brought the Kent skipper in the middle and he batted sensibly with the team’s opener. The pair played their strokes freely and put together 116 runs for the second wicket partnership. Bell-Drummond was the second wicket to fall in the Kent’s innings,
as he was caught behind the stumps after scoring 80 runs. The 17-year-old right-hander smashed 11 fours and two massive sixes in his valiant innings.
Bell-Drummond’s downfall didn’t hurt the home team at all and they continued to score runs at a very good pace. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alexander-James-Blake-c43208 played aggressive cricket and scored another century stand for the team with his captain for the third wicket. Blake was sent back
to the pavilion after adding 65 runs from 67 deliveries.
Northeast’s innings was the highlight of the day, as he was in mesmerising touch. The stylish right-handed batsman scored 176 runs off just 198 balls with the help of 23 fours and two towering sixes. His valiant knock finally came to an end, when he was
attempting an aggressive shot against the bowler.
However, the good work for Kent was continued by middle-order batsman, James Goodman, who scored 56 runs before getting out. The hosts reached 450 runs at a run-rate of 4.81 and the innings was declared.
The Loughborough MCCU bowlers were smashed to all parts of the park and they didn’t have much assistance off the wicket. However, Oliver Wilkin bowled well for his side, taking two wickets.
In reply, Loughborough MCCU got off to a terrible start, losing four wickets for just 12 runs. The team lost three of the top-five batsmen for a duck including captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Murphy-c53110. At stumps, opener, William Tavare, was unbeaten on 12 alongside middle-order
batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robert-Joseph-Taylor-c86004, who managed eight runs.
Left-arm seamer, Matt http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Coles-c51379 was in menacing form with the ball, taking all five wickets to fall in the visitors’ innings.
