Question:

Sam Peter vs Oleg Maskaev?

Oleg Maskaev is 39, coming off a 15 month layoff, and is fighting the dangerous puncher Sam Peter. Maskaev is the least impressive of the heavyweight title holders, but the younger, stronger peter looks to take that title in 4 rounds. Peters only defeat came to the undisputed champion Klischko, altho peter knocked him down 3 times he went on to lose by UD. Peter is a puncher, he can box 2, he outboxed toney twice and mccline after the rough start. But who wins and becomes heavyweight champion is it the old Maskaev with the questionable chin, or the young peter to go on with his promising career who wins?how?

  1. I think Sam Peter has been a little over rated, nobody would even remember who he was if the judges would have scored the first Tony fight correctly.  I see  Vladmir fighting nothing but Russian's in the near future to unify the title's.  Mind you Peter showed a lot of improvment in the rematch so you never know.

  2. Wow........according to you....Oleg doesn't stand a chance of a snowball in h**l to beat Sam. Actually; I see 2 heavy hitters both of whom have flaws & I doubt that either of them will be trying to imitate PBF. Having said that; I am hoping for a good hard entertaining  fight with both guys tossing bombs. As such; I can see it going either way. One thing is certain.......it will almost certainly be a better fight than Klitschko's stinker a couple of weeks ago.

  3. I have always been a fan of ''The Nigerian Nightmare'' but if he fights Maskaev like he did against McCline he could be in for a long night. I was surprised after he took the best Wlad could throw at him that he was dropped so easily by a sub 500. fighter who has a decent but not devasting punch. But he showed he could fight the ''big'' heavyweights (McCline is 6'6 265), and get up from the canvas and win.

Maskaev is as slow as molasses in winter and a long layoff doesn't help. If Peter can be effective with his punches like he was against Toney and land missles like he did on ''Dr. Lamehammer'' I feel he will take out Masgaev within 4 - 7 rounds. Hopefully he will win, then go after Klitschko and unify the titles. He is a young strong fighter who comes to fight not play pitty pat. Should be interesting.

  4. Peter's chin did not look so great in his last fight! If you want to read about this fight head on over to http://www.fightjunkie.com/predictions they have a write-up on the fight and also a forum where you can go and chat about this and many other fight related stuff.

  5. Sam Peter really showed improvement when he beat James Toney in their rematch, but then he left more questions about him unanswered when he had that shaky performance against Jameel McCline.  I still favor him to beat Maskaev, but after the McCline fight, I give Maskaev a better CHANCE of winning.  Maskaev, however as you pointed out has not fought in over a year, and it can't help that he is 39 while Peter is only 27, not to mention Maskaev does not have the best chin in the world.  I predict a Peter victory by either late rounds stoppage or a wide-points decision victory.

  6. I hope Maskaev.... Peter just talks way too much
