Sam Querrey and the future of American tennis
In the past, the professional tennis players from the United States of America ruled the top spotting for quite a period of time. Players like Jim Courier, Andre Agassi, Pete Sampras, Michael Chang as well as John McEnroe were the most prominent figures of the 1970s, ’80s as well as ’90s which was considered the peak age of American tennis.
Agassi as well as the pistol Pete eventually retired from the international game of tennis, leaving the game bereft of the dominant American presence.
Talking about the modern age, flourishing players like John Isner as well as Andy Roddick are on top of the headlines at the moment. Rodick is a famous American player as he won the United States Open championship back in 2003 where as John Isner after his lengthiest tennis match ever in the history of professional tennis came to the limelight. Isner played that marathon match at the All England Club this season at Wimbledon. However, besides Roddick one major victory, not a single big performance has been shown by either of the American for the past many years.
However, according to some of the experts, the twenty ranked American tennis ace, Sam Querrey could be the one who would break that ice in the near future.
Sam is trying his best to defend his trophy at the Farmers Classic as the young player has further improved his game since his victory back in 2009.
“Apart from the United States Open as well as the rest of the Grand Slam events, this is perhaps my favourite championship,” Querrey commented. “I’ve participated in it on four to five consecutive occasions. I love the home spectators”.
Querrey’s enthusiastic style as well as calm personality has been under discussion throughout the season.
His game beyond any shadow of doubt is day by day improving and who knows how it turns out to be when it ends?
Talking about his performances all through this season so far, the brave Sam Querrey contested at the Australian Open in spite of the fact that he got injured just a few months ago. Later on, the American tennis ace also contested in the Davis Cup competition and was part of his country’s team in the World Cup stage during the month of March.
If we put Sam and his compatriot fellow John Isner side by side, it is in fact quite difficult to decide who has a stronger serve. However, as far as the other features of the game are concerned, Sam is definitely ahead of Isner in terms of his adaptability and therefore definitely has a bright future ahead.
It isn’t a dream to become the representative of American tennis as far as Sam is concerned,
“Although I want to be the top ranked player and likely the top ranked American as well, however I know Andy doesn’t want to give up that tag, and John is also there in the queue, and who can forget James Blake as well as Mardy Fish who are also in the hunt,” he commented.
While commenting on the upcoming Grand Slam, the United States Open championship, Sam Querrey said that,
“With some good performances in these four or five championships leading up to the US Open, I can appear at the US Open with greater amount of confidence for sure, who knows may be till the quarter finals or even more”, he added.
Winning a Grand Slam title is definitely going to be a tough call for any American however Sam Querrey with just twenty two years of age surely has a clear chance.
