Sam Querrey outshines Alex Bogdanovic to reach the semi-final – Tulsa Challenger 2011
Top seed Sam Querrey made produced an impressive performance in the quarterfinal on Friday as he made it to the last four with a superb 6-4, 6-4 victory over Alex Bogdanovic of Great Britain at 2011 Tulsa Challengers tournament
here in Oklahoma, United States.
The American tennis pro looked in stunning form in a match that lasted for only 1 hour and 22 minutes on the hard courts of Oklahoma. His attacking abilities proved to be the main difference between the two players at the end as
he used the hit and volley technique to great effect.
The 23-year-old handled the pressure absolutely brilliantly as he played every point with a big heart. Besides his attacking game, he had a formidable defence as well, which allowed him to save several break points against him.
Looking in confident mood, Querrey has a great chance of lifting the Tulsa Challengers trophy. However, he must try and bring more penetration into his game to achieve to achieve similar result against the likes of Bobby Reynolds and Michael Russell.
Attacking his opponent right from the first game, Querrey made a solid start to the match. Securing his first service game with four straight points, he put Bogdanovic under extreme pressure. Smashing his blazing forehand and backhand
winners all over the court, the American made the challenger run for his money.
Bogdanovic was also up for the challenge and he held on to his first four service game to event the game score at 4-4. Querrey broke the deadlock in ninth game of the opening set, when he fired a blistering serve ace to make his
first serve break of the match for 5-4 lead. Serving for the set, Querrey showed no signs of nerves to take 1-0 set score lead.
The second set also followed a pretty similar trend as both players struggled to break on another’s serve. The Brit up his game play as he outplayed Querrey in several long rallies to hold on to his serve games. However he suffered
a break of serve for the second time in tenth game of the set to let his opponent take a straight sets victory.
Querrey served brilliantly and he achieved an incredible 73 per cent first serve conversion. Saving six out six break points against himself, he had a great defensive strategy. World number 125 will be facing the qualifier Michael
McClune in the semi-final. McClune floored Daniel Kosakowski 7-6 (6), 6-4 to reach that far.
