Sam Querrey trounces Andreas Seppi to enter quarters – China Open 2012
United States’ Sam Querrey crushed the Italian contender, Andreas Seppi, with a breadstick at the China Open 2012 on Thursday. He jolted down a 6-1, 6-4 victory against the 28-year-old to charge into the quarter-finals at this ATP (Association of Tennis
Professionals) World Tour 500 Series event held in Beijing, China.
The American contender stayed on track for his second year-to-date title after overpower Seppi in their fifth meeting at this outdoor hard court event. After earning the fame in one hour and six minutes, Querrey avenged his loss at the Mutua Madrid Open
three years ago and lowered trail in the FedEx ATP Head 2 Head Series by 2-3 against the world number 25.
Querrey thundered into the National Tennis Center. After Seppi held his opening serve in the second game, the American unleashed flurry of groundstrokes and reeled off five games in a row. He bagged his entire serves without encountering any hindrance and
capitalised on two out of six break chances to pull out the opener with a breadstick.
Ranked 26th in the South African Airways ATP World Tour Rankings, Querrey maintained consistency in his game in the following set. He smoothly swiped all of his serves without facing any trouble. The American got the breakthrough in the third
game and clinched the set with a 6-4 score line. Querrey converted one out of three break opportunities to his advantage to dominate in this set.
The San Francisco native fired six aces and took full advantage of four double faults his opponent committed. He manipulated a slightly higher first serve share of 55 per cent as compared to his rival’s 54 per cent and clinched 23 out of 27 points on it.
Querrey will face off the Spanish challenger, Feliciano Lopez, who dumped the Taiwanese contender, Yen-Hsun Lu, in straight sets to set up this meeting.
The fifth seed, Richard Gasquet from France, faced a bitter reality later that day. He was underplayed by the local wild card entrant, Ze Zhang, in gruelling three sets. The French seed cashed in two out of three break chances but was broken three times,
eventually suffering a 4-6, 6-3, 4-6 loss.
