Sam Querrey’s high aims for the year 2013 – Tennis Special
American contender, Sam Querrey, is determined to snatch away the tag of the “comeback player of 2012”. He made a classic entry after missing the previous season due to an assortment of injuries but he is not far behind.
In an interview with the media, he said, "I'm still coming off that win over Novak. I'm at a great point in my life. I'm feeling awesome and really looking forward to starting things up. The last six months have been so fun; when
you keep winning. The second half was outstanding. Every tournament was good. I didn't really take a bad loss. I'm hoping to have the first half of next year be like the second of this year. I'm definitely focused. Well, I'm not focused and motivated at the
moment, but after I get on the practice court I'm going to be really ready and focused for 2013!"
The young American contender made a quick recovery from elbow surgery and a rare umbilical cord infection but he displayed some of the finest performances on the courts to regain his form. He has enormous potential to give surprising
upsets to the reigning world champions. This exhibits his renaissance as compared to the other compatriots like John Isner, Ryan Harrison and Donald Young.
At the start of the year, he received a tough loss at the hands of the Aussie, Bernard Tomic, in the second round. The performance graph further declined at the French Open, when the Serbian professional, Janko Tipsarevic, prevailed
over him in the first round. At the US Open, he managed to sustain a decent pace but lost in the third round, displaying his best at the Flushing Meadows.
Querrey’s stamina was on trial in the third round of the Wimbledon Championships, when he contested against Marin Cilic. The two players battled tirelessly for nearly five hours and 31 minutes at stretch. For his future tournaments,
he plans to work more on his upper body physic by using the aid of acupuncture.
After the retirement of Andy Roddick, the American Tennis is undergoing a serious loss but if Querrey manages to come to the Top-10 in the first quarter of 2013, there is little hope. The right-hander American professional is practicing
from the end of the last week with his South African trainer, David Nainkin in Los Angeles. He has worked with Brad Gilbert in the past but he informed that he would use the services of the U.S. governing body in future.
The 25-year-old American has an aggressive game and is bold enough to take on any top class opponent. He is very intimidating as a player as he thrashes timely strikes onto his opponents and is well experienced in firing powerful
forehands. He moves well in the court and surprisingly has a bomber service. As he professional, he just needs to improve his winning pace to approximately five to eight percent, resultantly, he can even win the matches that he lost.
He still trails behind Isner by eight spots but with continued hard work, he can make to the highest ranked American. Due to declining trend of the other players, he surely needs to pick pace to save his country’s image.
