Sam Soliman unanimously nails Garth Wood to take on Daniel Geale in his next bout – Boxing news
Sam Soliman, International Boxing Federation’s (IBF’s) number two middleweight, outclassed his fellow countrymen Garth Wood in a 12-round bout to become the number one contender to take on Daniel Geale, the current IBF middleweight champion.
Sam and Garth were scheduled to clash for the interim IBF Pan Pacific middleweight title. Both men headlined the special edition, which took place at the Olympic Park Sports Centre situated in Homebush, New South Wales, Australia.
Soliman, while capturing an authoritative yet a bit difficult unanimous win over the roaring Wood, commented, “Garth is a warrior and will be a champion in the future with more experience. I am happy with the win today and I am now looking forward to getting
a crack at the world IBF title.”
Sam, 38, had a huge intimidating experience of 52 brawls. He is currently Australia’s number two middleweight. Infamous as the King, Sam has won 40 of his total brawls. Despite of the huge number of wins, the veteran has a very low kayo ratio. He has knocked
out just 17 opponents to collect a KO percentage of 32.69.
Wood, on the contrary, despite of being Aussie number three is not that experienced. He has been in a total 13 brawls and has come out victorious in 10. He is an average when it comes to kayo ratio holding a KO percentage of 42.86. Wood and Sam both went
in the ring to decide who will be IBF’s second middleweight and who will be worthy enough to take on Daniel after his March 7, 2012, engagement against Osumanu Adama.
The Aussie duo put forth an epic show of resilience and agility. Garth was the one who came on Sam again and again giving him a tough time but the latter being more experienced executed his heavy punches on a timely basis at the appropriate positions which
eventually led him collect a unanimous decision by 119-109, 117-114, and 118-110.
Wood while complimenting his country’s legend said, “I watched Sammy in the ring as a kid and admired his ring skills. I will go back to the gym and comeback a better fighter.”
Sam has improved his stats to 41 wins in a total 52 brawls and Wood after collecting his careers third loss has 10 wins in a total of 14 skirmishes.
