Sam Stout and Paul Kelly to square off at UFC 126

Two lightweights who love to throw the punches will get to chance to fight each other at UFC 126, as Sam “Hands of Stone” Stout is reportedly set to face Paul “Tellys” Kelly at the event, which is scheduled
to take place on 5 February 2011 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The news was reported by the website of Fighters Only magazine. Unnamed sources were cited for the news, but it was reported that both fighters’ camps had verbally agreed to the bout, which will likely take
place on the undercard.

Because the UFC is absorbing its sister company, World Extreme Cagefighting, they are also set to take in a new influx of lightweight (155lb) fighters, meaning that more fighters will be competing for limited
spaces with the promotion. Therefore a win for either of these fighters will be important to keep them away from the chopping block.

Both these men though are coming off of wins, with Stout having bounced back from a loss to Jeremy Stephens by taking a split decision win over Paul Taylor at UFC 121. But what makes Stout’s position perhaps
more secure is his reputation for putting on exciting fights that feature mostly kickboxing rather than the ground game. In his past four fights, he’s earned three “Fight of the Night” bonuses. The 26-year-old Canadian is 16-6 in his professional mixed martial
arts career, and 5-5 in his UFC career.

Kelly is also 26 but boasts an 11-3 record overall and a 5-3 record in the UFC. He most recently stopped T.J O’Brien in the second round with elbow strikes on 20 November at UFC 123. He’s 2-2 in his last
four and is perhaps best known for being the victim of a spectacular spinning back kick stoppage from German stand-out Dennis Siver.
