Sam Tomkins confirms his place with England – Rugby League
While talking to reporters on England media day this Thursday, October 13, Wigan Warriors’ full-back , Sam Tomkins, shared that presently all he is planning to do is continue playing for Wigan Warriors and England.
When his commitment to rugby league was further questioned, he said, "Whatever comes down the path, it's something I'd think about if I got the opportunity later on in life. For the time being, I'm focused on playing for Wigan."
The 22-year-old warrior linked up with his English squad on Wednesday to kick-off training for the series inaugural on November 5 against Kangaroos.
However, Sam’s older brother, Joel Tomkins, turned down the offer a for Steve Mcnamara’s English squad as he was offered a tempting amount of £400,000 a year by former Wigans skipper, Andy Farrell, to play for Saracens.
This move from Joel has created controversy in the world of rugby and the reporter’s questions made the curiosity about Tomkin’s decision clear.
When asked about his older brother’s move, Sam failed to give a definitive answer and turned away queries by saying that Joel does not want to come in and cause a disruption.
Wigans have vowed not to comment about the latest speculations about Joel. The player had recently extended his term for the next five years with Wigans and now the lucrative offer from Saracens is gaining rave reviews.
However, ever since Joel’s link up with Saracens at the cost of the English squad started making headlines in papers, Sam’s loyalty to his home town club has grown has been questioned.
This scenario has been aggravated by the fact that his childhood friend, Chris Ashton, made a switch to rugby union to join the English squad. The speculation is that Sam is gaining popularity within the opposite code of rugby, ever since his link up with
the London-based management company.
The management firm is known to represent many players that play Rugby Union and speculation is rife that the player may also be thinking of making a switch. A lot of the questions posed to the player during media day were about the subject but the player
has for now put the matter to rest by saying that he is sticking with Wigans.
