Sam Tomkins has faith in his side's Gillette Four Nations
chances against Australia
While talking at a pre-match press conference of the Gillette Four Nations final showdown on Saturday, November 19, Sam Tomkins of England showed confidence in his side’s potential to win this year’s series against Australia.
The final match of the ongoing campaign will be played on Saturday at Elland Road, Leeds, which will be a packed house. The full-house information was confirmed by the Four Nations’ organisers, who shared earlier that the final clash’s tickets were already
sold-out two days ahead of the actual event.
With the showdown venue already overflowing to its maximum capacity of 34,000, there was a public clamour for more tickets. In lieu of the high demand of tickets, the organisers issued an immediate release of 500 extra tickets, on early Thursday morning.
Interestingly, the tickets soon ran out and the waiting list is still building-up. Through the figures revealed, one thing which can be ascertained that a huge crowd will be there to witness the final battle of the Four Nations campaign.
The hype in the build-up of the final is also attracting post-match analysis from many qaurters. England and Australia both are under scrutiny and speculations of different sorts are making headlines. Another link of that chain is Tomkins’ views about his
side’s winning chances this year.
While recalling their last time’s loss, which dates back to 2009, from the same berth, the English player stated, "We were bigger underdogs in 2009. We probably thought we didn't have much chance of beating them but this year we're a lot more confident.
We feel we've got the team and the plan to beat them."
The final showdown will be the second encounter of England against the same contenders, where the first match took place a fortnight ago at Wembley that ended in a 36-20 defeat of English side. It was a tight tussle between them, which proved that English
line -up has the potential to give Australia a tough match, during the final clash.
Expressing his views about his side’s ability to surpass Australian strength in the final clash by learning through experience, Tomkins added, "We can take a lot of positives out of that. We competed for a long period of time. The way the Aussies got us
towards the end was down to mistakes of our own. They didn't force too much on us. It was silly penalties or bad decisions"
Also, he shared that they have been working this week to reduce the errors and mistakes they made during their previous encounter with Roos.
An English win over Australia is possible only if they are careful enough in staying away from making any errors and penalties during the clash. This was the basic formula, which had led to their sudden death victory against New Zealand last weekend. If
the very same formula is incorporated into the Saturday’s showdown, victory for England is highly likely.
