Sam Torrance will be receiving a lifetime achievement award for his successful career
The 21-time European Tour winner, Sam Torrance, will be achieving the honour of a lifetime achievement award in recognition of his successful career.
The 58-year-old Scottish Professional golfer earned two awards in the past and will also achieve another most respectable award this year.
He turned professional in 1970 and became the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year in 1972 for displaying an amazing performance.
Later, he also achieved the Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2003.
His 43 professional wins are on the top as he spent his entire life playing golf. Keeping in view his services to the sport, the officials have planned to acknowledge and honour him with the award.
Torrance is also happy for becoming the third respective award winner from Scotland. Before him, Paul Lawrie and Colin Montgomerie had also been awarded in the last year.
He stated, "I am privileged to be receiving the Scottish Golf Lifetime Achievement Award. I have enjoyed a wonderful career and I would like to think I am not finished yet. I love to play golf in Scotland and I love to come home to Scotland".
He was a leading player, but he is now more involved in sports commentary. During his 40-year professional career, he has not won any major title but is still competing well on different golf courses.
Torrance's last victory of the European Tour was at the Peugeot Open de France in 1998. He then played the European Seniors Tour events and recorded 11 victories till 2009.
The most important event for the Scottish golfers has been the Ryder Cup. He played eight times with the European Team and competed well against the US.
His presence helped his team win the title in 1985, 1987, 1989 and 1995. Moreover, in 2002, he was the proud captain of the European team at the Ryder Cup.
Under his captaincy, Europe successfully defeated the Americans by 15½ and 12½ scores.
Torrance's career is extremely bright and he is still delivering his best to record some more victories on the European Tour.
His best finish last year was at the MCB Tour Championship and Van Lanschot Senior Open, where he secured the fourth position on the leaderboard.
