Sam Vincent retracts his critical statement about Michael Jordan - NBA Update
Sam Vincent, former Charlotte Bobcats coach from 2007-2008 had to pull a retraction from his statement that was seen as a criticism of Michael Jordan. He questioned the work ethics of Hall of Famer MJ and said that there is a difference
between being a great player and a successful executive.
“The work he put in to be a great player and the work you put in to be a great executive, those are different things. That additional time you spend on jump shots, running, dunking, I don’t know if he puts in that same amount of
time as an executive or if he even cares to.”
A week later after giving the above statement to Washington Post he was compelled to pull a retraction. He rebutted that his statement was misconstrued. Vincent told NBA.com that he couldn’t express himself and was misinterpreted.
He continued that he Loves MJ and means no disrespect to the hall of famer. Vincent admitted that Jordan is often criticized for not being involved but he is doing the right thing, rebuilding the team around new talent and it will
take time before the plan comes together.
"MJ is about winning and winning big. He’s been adding talented, young players through the draft and is in position to land a high level player in a good draft this season”
Vincent was hired by Jordan in 2007 less than a year after he became franchise minority owner and eventually he had to fire him after a season. He now works with NBA’s retired players association.
It is rare to find an ex employee who is still seeking a job in any other franchise speaking so candidly about is former boss.
It is not the 1st time that MJ came under the lens of for his record as an executive. Unfortunately Bobcats plight means that more and more people will question Jordan.
Recently they skidded down to a 17 game losing streak breaking their own league’s worst 16 game losing streak record. Bobcats are on route to finish the season with 0.106 winning percentage getting in par with 1972 Philadelphia
76ers as they hold the worst record, 0.110 winning percentage.
Moreover MJ has been often questioned for his entrepreneurship skills, trading key experienced players and roping in rookies while his choices in the former lottery pick also browned off the fans.
Jordan has been around for a long time and he can understand the virtue of patience. He believes he knows what to do with the Charlotte Bobcats.
