Sam Waley-Cohen expects Bobs Worth to be competitive in Gold Cup
Sam Waley-Cohen, rider of Long Run, rates Bobs Worth as the best in the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup, which is scheduled to take place in March this year. The event has attracted some very good runners and they will definitely spice things up for the spectators.
According to the jockey, “The form of all the leading contenders is extremely strong. In reality whoever wins it is going to have to run up to a mark not yet achieved. Bobs Worth's form looks incredibly impressive and is probably the one to beat. If you
look at the horses that ran in the King George that have come out, Champion Court and Grands Crus haven't done great and that might be because it was a tough race.”
He added, “As far as Long Run is concerned there is no real worry about him being race ready. Nicky Henderson can get them ready first time - he did with Bobs Worth in the Hennessy.”
Bobs Worth has participated in a total of 11 races until now and his performances have been phenomenal. He has maintained a terrific strike rate, which shows that he is capable of troubling his opponents with consistency.
He has never dropped out of the top three in his entire career, which proves that he does not settle for anything less than perfection. He has won eight races whereas finished as a runner up on a couple of times. In addition to that, he has secured the third
spot once. He will be looking to continue making his team proud in future events too.
The eight-year-old gelding has not participated in any race this year, but that does not mean he is rusty. He appeared in three events last year and performed brilliantly in them. He was victorious in the previous two competitions, which means he will be
eying a hat-trick in the Gold Cup.
Compared to him, Long Run has got more experience, as he has represented his team in 24 races, winning on 14 occasions. Despite that, it will not be easy for him to challenge some top quality performers in the upcoming race at Cheltenham.
