Sam Walker set for title defence at the Scottish Hydro Challenge – Golf news
Sam Walker believes that he is well prepared for his title defence when he tees off this week at the Scottish Hydro Challenge presented by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts, on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
The tournament will be staged at the beautiful Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club, featuring a top-notch field from the European Challenge Tour, vying for a share of the €220,000 prize fund.
Last year, Walker came out of the field of the Scottish Hydro Challenge as the playoff winner, after the fourth round was cancelled due to inclement weather conditions and he entered the playoffs with the fellow third round leader Simon Wakefield.
In addition to his victory in the event last year, he also secured the title in its inaugural edition. That is the reason why the Englishman is so much confident about the successful defence of his title in Scotland.
Talking to the European Challenge Tour’s official website, he said that Scotland is now just like a new home to him because of the love and affection he has for the country.
“I don’t know whether I'm maybe half-Scottish or something but I seem to do well here wherever I play,” said the 35-year-old. “It’s a great place. You can’t say anything bad about this place, the golf course and the scenery are incredible. It’s a little bit different to last year, it’s bouncing a little bit more and that will play into certain players’ hands.”
“I'm quite relaxed and I'm going to just go out there and enjoy it and take it all in. This event is a bit more special for me than other events, just because I like the place,” he added.
Walker is currently enjoying a decent form, as he recently recorded his best finish of the season when he recorded a 66 in the final round of the D+D Real Czech Challenge Open to secure the second position behind François Calmels of France.
He is now hoping to make another strong this week, in a bid to strengthen his position in the Challenge Tour Rankings, which can allow him to secure one of the 15 European Tour cards on offer at the end of the season.
