Sam Williams: Williams to test upgrades at upcoming Canadian Grand Prix – Formula 1 news
Williams’ technical director Sam Williams has said that team will bring a host of upgrades for their cars at the upcoming Canadian Grand Prix this weekend.
Williams are going to test some upgrades during the two Friday practice sessions this weekend before the Canadian GP.
The team scored its first points at the Monaco Grand Prix as Rubens Barrichello scored 2 points after finishing in 9th place while his teammate Pastor Maldonado retired from the race in the last couple of laps from 6th place.
After a dreadful start to the 2011 Formula 1 season, the team is hoping to recover and hopefully score some good results in the near future with the help of some upgrades.
Williams hope to bring a low downforce package in Montreal in order to score better performances statistically. However, the team’s technical director Sam Michael said that this upgrade is going to bring a host of other upgrades for testing during the free
practice sessions as well.
“Set-up [in Canada] is geared towards aero efficiency on the straights and maximising traction out of the slow speed corners. We will have a new front wing, brake ducts, barge boards and modified diffuser to test during practice, as well as the obligatory
new rear wing for the lower drag level required in Canada,” said Michael.
Williams were unable to score a single point in the first five races of the 2011 Formula 1 season making it their worst start to a season in their history. The team was extremely disappointed with its performance as they were hoping to compete alongside
the top running teams this year especially after a pretty good pre-season testing period.
Nevertheless, the team has finally recovered in terms of pace as both of the team’s drivers were at their best at Monte Carlo but unfortunately because of Maldonado’s retirement, it was a ‘bitter sweet’ race for the team in the end.
Sam Michaels is hoping for some improvements in the near future and it is going to be interesting to see how they perform during the Canadian Grand Prix’s free practice sessions on Friday during testing of their car’s new upgrades.
