Samantha Hamill dominates Women’s 200m butterfly heats – EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships
Samantha Hamill of Kawana Waters dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 200m butterfly on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Swimming Championships at the South Australia Aquatic and Leisure Centre in Adelaide on Sunday, March 18.
Hamill experienced strong contest from Jessicah Schipper of Chandler but with her utter determination, she managed to prove her supremacy over the finishing end and qualified into the semi-final as top fastest swimmer.
The 21-year-old Hamill upset her challengers in the initial lap of the event, where she clocked a time of 28.89 seconds. Her stupendous effort placed her 0.04 seconds ahead of her strongest challenger, Schipper, who finished her initial lap with the timing
of 28.93 seconds.
In the meantime, the crowd witnessed exhausting efforts of 25-year-old Schipper, who went rampant in the second lap and ended her first round of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 02.34 seconds. She remained 0.21 seconds ahead of Hamill, who completed
her initial half of the race in a second fastest time of 1 minute and 02.55 seconds.
Subsequently, Hamill accelerated her efforts in the third lap, where she went on a rampage and proved her ascendancy by restoring her position with the timing of 1 minute and 36.49 seconds. Her immaculate effort placed her 0.05 seconds ahead of Schipper,
who wrapped up the similar distance by posting an effort of 1 minute and 36.54 seconds.
With her persistent efforts in the final lap, Hamill paved her way to the finishing wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 11.14 seconds. She was chased by Schipper, who stayed 0.73 seconds behind and completed her race in second place with an effort of 2
minutes and 11.87 seconds.
The third spot of the race was secured by Amy Smith of St Peters Western Swim Club, who remained 1.16 seconds away from her preceding swimmer and hit the finishing end with an effort of 2 minutes and 13.03 seconds.
In addition, the championship will continue for four more consecutive days and will end on March 22 after the conclusion of all planned events in Men and Women’s corner.
