Samantha Lee of Capital Swim Club-WN pocketed gold medal of the Women’s 200m butterfly on foremost day of the State 2012 New Zealand Short Course Championships at Wellington Regional Aquatic Centre in Wellington on Sunday, September 30.
The 20-year-old Lee smothered hopes of her competitors in the distant butterfly discipline and seized the title of the event.
She remained prominently ahead of her challengers from the start and paved her way to the finishing wall for gold medal by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 10.05 seconds.
The gold medallist was traced by Sophia Batchelor of AquaGym Swim Team-CB, who was 1.76 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade as second best finisher by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 11.81 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Charlotte Webby of Aquabladz Taranaki Swim Club-TR, who stayed 0.82 seconds behind and submitted a time of 2 minutes and 12.63 seconds for bronze medal.
Webby was followed by Lauren Coetzee of Capital Swim Club-WN, who stayed two and a half body length behind and ended fourth in the race with a timing of 2 minutes and 15.12 seconds.
Coetzee was traced by Paige Schendelaar-Kemp of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who remained considerably slower from her foregoing finisher and posted an effort of 2 minutes and 19.01 seconds for fifth place.
Sixth position of the race was obtained by Helena Gasson of Thames-WK, who was 0.12 seconds apart and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 19.13 seconds.
Subsequently, Gasson was followed by Kimberly Richter of Howick Pakuranga-CO, who was 0.10 seconds behind and reported a time of 2 minutes and 19.23 seconds.
Richter was traced by Grace Sommerville of Ashburton Swim Team-ED, who was 0.24 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing blockade as eighth position holder by touching the wall with an effort of 2 minutes and 19.47 seconds.
In addition, Lee received massive admiration from the crowd for her gruelling efforts and expressed that she would train harder to make a significant improvement in her pace and shine at the upcoming swimming events.
