Samantha Marshall and Sarah Katsoulis win gold medals – EnergyAustralia SC Championships
Samantha Marshall of Melbourne VIC and Sarah Katsoulis of Nunawading won gold medals of the Women’s 100m breaststroke on day four of the 2012 EnergyAustralia Short Course Championships at Challenge Stadium in Perth on Saturday, September 15.
Marshall and Katsoulis smothered hopes of their opponents in the playoff of the four-lap discipline and proved their mettle for the title of the event.
Katsoulis remained marginally ahead of her following swimmer in the start while her efforts were matched by Marshall in the second half and they reached the finishing wall for gold medal.
They remained engage in a neck-to-neck race throughout the swim and proved their mettle for gold medal of the swim by producing an identical time of 1 minute and 06.42 seconds.
The duo of gold medallists was followed by Sally Foster of Central Aquatic, who remained 0.37 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing end as third position holder by submitting a time of 1 minute and 06.79 seconds.
Foster was followed by Lorna Tonks of Redcliffe League, who stayed only 0.17 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall for fourth position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 06.96 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the race was obtained by Jessica Hansen of MLC Aquatic, VIC, who stayed 0.51 seconds away from overpowering her foregoing finisher and hit the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 07.47 seconds.
Sixth position of the event was obtained by Aisling Scott of Nudgee Brothers, who was one and a half body length behind and touched the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 08.91 seconds.
Following that, the audience witnessed gruelling efforts of Amelia Dahlitz of Norwood, SA and Jenna Strauch of Melbourne VIC, who failed to escape each other over the finishing end and ended in a joint finish for seventh position.
The duo stayed just one stroke slower from their preceding swimmer and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 09.25 seconds.
In addition, the crowd appreciated mind-blowing efforts of Marshall and Katsoulis in the 100m discipline and collected medals after the event.
