Samantha Stosur bids for a better show in 2013 – Tennis News
It has been a moderate season for the Aussie star, Samantha Stosur, who reached just two finals including Qatar Ladies Open and the Kremlin Cup. She lost both the clashes and squandered opportunities to break the duck in the 2012
season. It is always frustrating to win nothing at all in the entire season despite such a hard-fought struggle. However, one good thing that came to her way was that she finished amongst the Top-10 players of the world which is an achievement itself.
Former US Open Champion confessed to the local media representatives, “Overall, finishing No 9 in the world, it's still pretty good. It's not as high as I wanted it to be, that's for sure. But taking a break and reflecting, parts
of my game have improved and others can still improve."
Commenting about the Grand Slam Championship, the Australian Open, contested at her home soil, she proclaimed, “I put far too much pressure on myself in the Aussie summer because I really, really wanted to do well. You only get
the opportunity to play at home for a few weeks and I probably built it up too big and didn't handle the occasions on court very well at all.” It is interesting to note that the 28-year-old Aussie has never cleared the third round of the Australian Open in
her entire career which is a bit astonishing considering that she has the entire home crowd support cheering for her.
However the ninth ranked Aussie stated about repeating the heroics like winning the Grand Slam, Stosur bluntly stated, “For sure; now that I've done it once, you have to think 'why can't it happen again?” It looks like the right-handed
powerhouse hasn’t given up and still affirmed on her goal of racking up few more Grand Slam titles to her name before she quits the world of tennis.
Recapping some of the glorious runs by Stosur in the current year, one can witness that she had four semi-final exits to go with her two final appearances in the current season and reached until the quarter-final of five tournaments
before failing to extend her run further. Stosur picked up 44 wins in 68 matches she contested in 2012. If you match this stat with the previous season which had a record of 46-23, there is not a lot to talk about except the titles which always make a huge
difference in the end.
