Samantha Stosur confident to perform better in the Fed Cup – Tennis News
Samantha Stosur has forgotten her dismal run at her home soil earlier this year and looks to make a remarkable comeback in the upcoming tournaments to revive her lost form. She gave an interview to the local media representatives
and stated, “I am not waking up every morning thinking about it. I have the opportunity to try to start playing well again. Until I start doing that, it is still going to be a bit of a fresh memory.”
She was interviewed during the practice camp that was set up for the Fed Cup team in Fribourg. She further added, “We are all competitors and you don't want to watch the others enjoying their success. It is not much fun.”
Aussie number one, Stosur, had a formidable year’s first Grand Slam tournament, the Australian Open. She faced a major upset at the hands of the Romanian beauty queen, Sorana Cirstea, in the first round of the tournament but she is confident to bounce back
and flabbergast the crowd with her stunning performances.
Stosur had a very disappointing run in the season-opener tournament in Brisbane as well. She started off well defeating the Belarusian competitor, Anastasia Yakimova, in straight sets. She was the top seed in the tournament
and considering the fact that she was playing on her home soil, she was ought to perform well and take the title but a second round exit at the hands of the Czech, Iveta Benesova, disappointed everyone.
She was ousted in the first round of the Apia Sydney International by the Italian contestant, Francesca Schiavone. It has been a very tough start to the season for her but she is confident to explore her sublime form and
delight her fans. She is the reigning US Open champion and it is vital for her to return to her supreme form in order to increase the competition at elite level.
Her next target is to help her country crawl back to the first tier of the Fed Cup tournament; they lost their place after a miserable performance against Italy and Ukraine last year. It’s a very hectic season for all players
especially the inclusion of Olympics in London so there is ample time for the Aussie tennis ace to revive her form and help herself to climb few more ranks. She is currently ranked number fifth in the world but her fans want their tennis icon to play well
and move upwards.
