Samantha Stosur content from her performance in Moscow – Tennis News
World number nine, Samantha Stosur, couldn’t stay firm in the hunt of the Premier Title at Moscow and fall victim to the late onslaught of the 22-year-old Dane star, Caroline Wozniacki, who won the match deep in the three sets.
The 28-year-old Aussie rallied a set down to enforce the final set and almost led to the tie-breaker round but the 12th game proved hazardous for her. She lost the battle 2-6, 6-4, 5-7.
Putting the last week into perspective, Stosur stated, “Even though I lost, making a final is still a good achievement. It's disappointing not to walk away with a title this year, having done so the last couple of years, but I
made it to two finals and had a lot of other good opportunities, so it's still a good year, and I'll use it to motivate myself in 2013.”
Stosur was the superior seeded player in the contest than Wozniacki. She was the top seed contestant and expected to overpower the third seed wildcard entrant Dane. However considering the performance of both athletes, ranking
didn’t make any difference because they are from the top notch and were expected to put up a show of their lifetime which they did.
Unfortunately, none of them have managed to qualify for the year-end finale in Istanbul. However, Stosur remains the alternative player and might feature in that contest if someone withdraws. Wozniacki was also gutted for not making
it to the tournament in Istanbul. She said, “You definitely want to play Istanbul - there's no doubt that's one of the goals at the beginning of the year. But sometimes that just doesn't happen. That's sport sometimes, and I hope to be back there again.”
It has been a terrific year for the women tennis. The eight players that will feature in the second last tournament of the season include Victoria Azarenka of Belarus, Maria Sharapova of Russia, Serena Williams from America, Agnieszka
Radwanska of Poland, Petra Kvitova of Czech Republic, Angelique Kerber from Germany, Li Na from China and Sara Errani from Italy. Let’s hope the tournament lives up to the expectations of the tennis fanatics.
