Samantha Stosur demolishes Erika Sema in the round one – HP Japan Open 2012
Top seeded tennis professional, Samantha Stosur, rallied past the local challenger, Erika Sema, in the first round of the HP Japan Women’s Open 2012 on Monday. She collected her straight sets 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the hard courts
of Osaka, Japan.
Talking to the media Stosur said, “I thought I played quite well. She came out playing very well - she was hitting the ball well, hitting it hard, and playing aggressively - she was trying to play her best. I did everything I had
to, and as the match went on, I thought my serve got better; I got more aggressive and just got better. I'd never seen her play before. I knew she was right-handed. It was very disappointing in Beijing when I lost. I'm using other things to motivate me for
the rest of the year other than qualifying for the WTA Championships.”
World number ninth, Stosur commenced the opener and confident drew the lead against the underdog in the fourth game, stamping a 3-1 lead. However, Sema immediately responded by cashing her challenger and by the sixth game the score
line crossed down twice, at 3-all and 4-all. The Aussie preserved their poise and quickly adopted a more aggressive game plan. She nudged forward and swiftly bagged away the last two games, concluding the initial set with a 6-4 lead.
The 23-year-old, Sema, broke her serve initial serve and evened out the score line once by the fourth game of the second set. This surely aroused an alarming situation for Stosur and she dissolved the opponent’s serve, making a
surprising breakthrough. She secured all the games without facing any hindrance and eventually terminated the set with a 6-2 win.
Ranked 164th in the WTA Rankings, progressed in the set with a higher initial serve accuracy of 79 percent, bagging away 23 of 38 first and four of 10 second serve points. She lost the lead because she just capitalized
on one of the six break points, whereas her competitor secured four. The 28-year-old Aussie fired five aces and double faulted seven times. She preserved a moderate 62 percent initial serve with 32 of 38 points
